- Why aren’t you reading this?: Black Summer TPB (Avatar) – It’s nice to see a publisher like Avatar continuing to give creators like Ellis and Ennis a place to tell their special brand of warped stories. Black Summer reads like the next best comic book movie that you’d love to see on the big screen. The only problem is that you’d lose Ryp’s sensational artwork!
- No Hero at Inked: A Comic Book Review Blog – Ellis sets up a lot for the rest of the series, so much that he could easily keep it going beyond its seven issue run. Juan Jose Ryp’s artwork is outstanding and fits the story perfectly. His attention to detail makes every panel feel like it’s covered is covered in dirt and grit, making it feel like a place you want to see cleaned as badly as Carver does.
