Avatar Launches The Ravening

Rick Lyon, Steve Scott Headline Vampire Onslaught

Urbana, IL – Avatar Press, Inc. announced today the launch of The Ravening, a vampire chronicle which will play a key role in the unfolding saga of the Avatar mythology.  The first issue of The Ravening features the artistic talents of two of comics’ rising stars – pencillers Steve Scott and Rick Lyon.  Scripts for this tale of modern mayhem and ancient bloodlust are provided by Avatar architects William A. Christensen and Mark Seifert.

“The Ravening is the perfect opportunity for readers and retailers who have not had the chance to check out our titles to give us a look,” says Avatar Press Editor-in-Chief William A. Christensen.  “The fast-paced, meticulously crafted saga of The Ravening – a group of present-day vampires who seek to bring a primeval horror into the modern world – is a stand-alone series, but it also serves as an introduction to the larger myths which are developing at Avatar Press.”

“As everyone knows, vampire myths are a staple of popular fiction,”  adds Avatar Creative Director Mark Seifert.  “Readers have long found these noble, violent, sexy creatures fascinating.  But the key to making a vampire tale stand out is interesting characters and a compelling story.  I think we’ve got some elements here which can really draw readers into the series.  Furthermore, The Ravening lays the foundation for many other Avatar concepts and stories we have planned for the next couple of years.”

The Ravening will continue Avatar’s tradition of maintaining the highest possible standards of writing, production, and artwork.  The series features pencils and character designs by artist Rick Lyon.  Lyon first received raves for his stint at London Night Studios on titles such as Razor: Torture and Embrace, and has since become a fan favorite for his Avatar work on Wrath of the Furies and other titles.  The Ravening #1 also features cover artwork by Steve Scott, who has become one of the industry’s brightest stars due to his stellar work on projects such as Chaos! Comics’ Homicide and London Night’s color Razor series.  Inks for the series will be provided by David Mowry, an industry veteran whose extensive credits include work for Top Cow, Malibu, London Night, and numerous others.

The Ravening #1 will be available in the March 1997 Previews for products shipping in May.  Avatar will support the launch of the title with advertising in Previews, house ads, targeted promotional mailings, and extensive coverage on its web site at http://www.avatarpress.com.  The project will also receive major marketing support from comics-related merchandise manufacturer Bolt Entertainment throughout 1997.
