August ’98 Releases

April 28, 1998, Urbana, IL – Avatar Press announced an ambitious August 1998 shipping schedule today.  Two brand new projects, Avatars and Shimmer, will each launch with #1 issues and Threshold, the company’s showcase title promises a powerhouse line-up of stories and creators for its seventh issue, including a special prelude to the upcoming Faust / 777:The Wrath crossover by David Quinn and Tim Vigil, as well as an all new Cavewoman story by creator Budd Root.

“We’re extremely excited about our August releases,” said Avatar Managing Editor, Barry Gregory.  “We’re premiering two brand new projects.  Avatars is the company’s first team book and something I’ve been wanting to do since the day I started work here.  The Avatar world is built loosely around some of the characters and concepts of Greek Mythology.  We established early on that Zeus became a mad tyrant who murdered most of the pantheon and then disappeared.  We always knew that someday he’d return and that when he did all hell would break loose!  Now, with his return imminent, Avatar’s prime hero, Pandora, and her mentor, Atlas, assemble the greatest heroes of the Avatar world to take him on.  This first issue will guest star (in addition to Pandora and Atlas) The Furies, Twilight, and the  Journeymen as well as a few new characters.  I’ll be writing the story and the stellar art will be supplied by Albert Holaso (Razor/Crow).  Shimmer is the brainchild of Snowman creator, Matt Martin.  It’s the story of a genetically engineered, cybernetically enhanced, armor clad warrior set loose on a world she’s not ready for … and a world that’s definitely not ready for her!  William Christensen and Mark Seifert handle the writing chores while Rick Lyon provides the knockout artwork.  This story should appeal to fans of over the top military action, as well as fans of hard hitting science fiction adventure.  And as for Threshold … I’ve been very proud of each of the first six issues of Threshold, but issue seven is hands down our best yet!   The Faust / 777:The Wrath crossover will be a big, big treat for Quinn and Vigil fans and it all begins with the prelude in Threshold #7.  And is if that weren’t reason enough alone to make this issue a classic, we’ve also got an all new Cavewoman story from Budd Root.  I’ve been a big fan of Cavewoman ever since it premiered and I’m thrilled to have a story from Budd in this issue of Threshold.”

Avatar also announced that in collaboration with their big August release plans, Rendition figures will be releasing both a Shimmer collectible figure and a Cavewoman collectible figure in August.  The Shimmer collectible figure, designed by Matt Martin, is a sexy armor-plated warrior standing 7″ tall, and featuring 10 points of articulation.  She comes with a huge mini-gun, energy pistol, and eight plasma cable.  The Shimmer collectible figure is limited to 20,000 figures.  One figure per case will be a Blue armor variant.  Shimmer is also available in a gold armor variant.  The Cavewoman collectible figure, designed by Budd Root, also stands 7″ tall and features 9 points of articulation.  She comes with a knife, textured base, and her pet baby T-Rex, Harmony!  This must-have for all Cavewoman fans is limited to only 20,000 figures!  One figure per case will be a blue loincloth variant.  The Cavewoman collectible figure is also available in a gold metallic bikini variant.
