Free Comic Book Day Update

Robocop by Frank Miller21 days until Free Comic Book Day and here’s some news about one of Avatar’s free comics for that day — Frank Miller’s Robocop / Stargate SG-1.  This book is jam-packed with cool stuff:

  • Frank Miller’s Robocop —  See material from one of the biggest comic projects of the year for free!  Incredible art by Miller and finished interior pages by Juan Jose Ryp are shown in this FCBD release.
  • Stargate SG-1: P.O.W. — Pages from our debut Stargate SG-1 mini-series written by James Anthony Kuhoric and Renato Guedes.  Kuhoric has extensive experience with licensed science fiction comics including writing credits for Battlestar Galactica and First Wave comics.  Guedes is a talented newcomer who has also done work on DC’s Smallville series.
  • Species: Naked Aggression —  Promo art for our upcoming Species debut, which is written by John Layman and drawn by Rich Bonk.  Bonk is an inker and finisher of note, having inked a number of high-profile books such as The Darkness, Ascension, The Tenth, Spawn: Dark Ages, Action Comics, and numerous other titles.  Rich is also a talented penciller in his own right as you will see with his Species work.  Layman is one of the biggest rising star writers on the horizon right now, and also the highly regarded former DC/Wildstorm editor of major hits Planetary and The Authority.
  • Robocop: Simple Machines — A brief promo look for an upcoming Robocop mini-series scheduled for 2004.  The series will be written by Nick Locking and drawn by Jeremy Rock.  Rock is another extremely talented newcomer who’s so good we signed him exclusive and have already slated him for some major upcoming Avatar projects.  Locking is a well-regarded industry commentator and the writer of the online comic The Atrocity, which won best strip honors at the UK’s National Comics Awards last year.

Free Comic Book Day is three weeks from today — Saturday, May 3, which is the same weekend that X2 opens.  Ask your local comic book retailer for details about this and other promotions at your local store.
