New This Week: STITCHED #2

by Keith Davidsen on December 14, 2011

Headed to your local comic shop today? Be sure to check out STITCHED #2, by Garth Ennis and Mike Wolfer! It’s the second fear-fraught chapter in Ennis’ tale of American and British soldiers fighting undead war machines in the Afghanistan mountains!

STITCHED began as Garth Ennis’ exploration into telling horror tales in a brand new medium: film! The STITCHED short film, written and directed by Ennis himself, was the opening volley in what proves to be an epic war story, as masterful Mike Wolfer adapts the full feature-length script to comic format. Issue #2 expands the story; while issue #1 largely adapted the entirety of the STITCHED short film, the new issue heads into uncharted territory, truly taking the characters from the movie (and issue #1) debut and setting them in uncharted territory.

In STITCHED #2, the surviving crew members of a downed American Blackhawk helicopter learn more about their British S.A.S. rescuers… and their running battle against the fearsome, corpse-like “Stitches” that patrol the desert wastes. It’s clear that there’s an evil intelligence behind the Stitches, an organization intent on wiping out coalition and Taliban forces indiscriminately. But as these hardened men spin stories of fallen comrades and indestructible creatures, they unknowingly find themselves confronted once again!

Please enjoy our preview of STITCHED #2 below!

    thats a badass wrap cover!
the ‘binladen’ one is good too, but its missing the penis (or poop log) that should be stuck in his eye socket or throat.

so have you guys figured out how to keep this book from coming across as racist/ anti-muslim?
i dont think that you are being that way, so i DO hope you folks thought this over long and hard to come up with a way to keep it cool.

Undead taliban? Lol, talk about demonizing your enemy. Don’t fall into the trap of “Axis of Evil” by George Bush. The Afghan freedom fighters (or terrorists as they like to call it in the USA), have children and family too. They’re not zombies, they’re humans. It’s a totally different thing why Americans and Talibans kill each other. Mostly Americans killing Talibans. It’s because of why every war is fought. Money and Power, i.e. controlling resources. Depicting Afghan soldiers as zombies plays directly into the hands of US state propaganda…

However, if there was no political bias, this would make a great comic, I’m sure. So I’ll just pretend that it’s not about the ongoing conflict….

This is very typical of what happens if you don’t read the material provided, or construct theories, criticisms or questions based on the comments of other who haven’t read the material provided. As it says in the text above, “There’s an evil intelligence behind the Stitches, an organization intent
on wiping out coalition and Taliban forces indiscriminately.”

I hope that clears things up. And no, that’s not Bin Laden, by the way.

True I haven’t read it. I just read Family Values and Psychopath. If I misunderstood what the comic is about then I’d like to apologize. I’m a big fan of Avatar comics.

My understanding is that the reason US soldiers are killing the taliban is because they are part of those that flew planes into the WTC and killed thousands of people. Money and power is always a factor in war, but please dont ignore the obvious reasons for American rage.

Mike, i hope you recognize that i was not claiming that the book had racist overtones, but only that  am concerned that Avatar will receive that accusation and i hope management has thought long and hard how to defend against it. too bad its not binladen i would have bought a a copy for that cover!
