New This Week: WOLFSKIN VOL. 2: HUNDREDTH DREAM Graphic Novel

by Keith Davidsen on December 21, 2011

When you visit your local comic book shop this week, be sure to pick up the latest graphic novel release from Avatar Press: WOLFSKIN VOLUME 2: HUNDREDTH DREAM! This second WOLFSKIN graphic novel is written by Warren Ellis (Captain Swing, Supergod) and Mike Wolfer (Stitched, Night of the Living Dead), and illustrated by Gianluca Pagliarani (Crossed 3D, Ignition City).

The premise: Before history was recorded in stone and ink, some men wrote it in blood! Wolfskin, a nomadic warrior, hopes to find a new purpose in life after the accidental slaughter of his own tribe while in the throes of an uncontrollable berserker rage. Hired as a guide and swordsman for a rescue mission to the volcanic ice plains, he travels north with a band of misfits and magicians whose skills and ideology are perched between prehistory and the advent of technology. What dreadful enemy will they face on the outskirts of civilization, and will Wolfskin even have a place in the world should he slay it?

This new heroic legend from the darkest corridors of time, as chronicled by long-time collaborators Ellis and Wolfer, features 160 pages of highly-detailed, full-color artwork by Pagliarani and is intended for Mature Readers. The books are available in the following editions:

Great read. highly enjoyable. I hope Ellis writes more and Wolfer adapts it.

This is story pretty damn good so far, although different from the last Wolfskin series. it reminds me of AD&D and the new Demon Knights series over at DC. every DM in the world knows the easiest way to get the party together is at the tavern, haha! The dialog is not what i would expect, but it is very interesting. the art is GREAT and im looking forward to reading  the 2nd half! However i wish all the covers were full sized, even the chapter breaks. The reduced size certainly diminishes my ability to enjoy that artwork. as a Ryp fan, i am a little disappointed.

im only part way thru Wolfskin but i did just finish Captain Swing, which was awesome! esp. how much it develops in each issue. i hope we see more of the electric pirates in the future. the art over there is GREAT too, but i think Raulo’s work on Psychopath is even better. those ‘diary pages’ are pretty awesome tho, i wonder if you had them in the original comics? it certainly helps validate the price. im looking forward to seeing more from Raulo in the future.

hey, what happened to my last post? it was an honest question as to what happened regarding Avatar announcing the TPB over a month ago but it didnt show up until this week. it wasn’t even a criticism!
