Crossed: Wish You Were Here, Live with Free New Chapter

Avatar Press publishes a free online comic every Thursday with Crossed: Wish You Were Here.

Crossed is an over-the-top, adults-only outbreak story created by Garth Ennis (Preacher, The Boys, Chronicles of Wormwood) in 2008.

Wish You Were Here is written by Si Spurrier (X-Men Legacy, Judge Dredd, 2000AD), and features a ragged band of survivors holed up on a small island fighting off the horror of the Crossed.

The first 22 chapters were recently collected in soft and hard cover editions. However, you can read the individual web chapters for free here.

    “winning”? really??
man when your writer gets dialog tips from charlie sheen…. its time for a new writer. lol
    more blablahblazzzzzzzzzzzz…..

I’m looking forward to Spurrier’s Badlands arc but yeah, this week it does feel he wrote Wish You Were Here into a corner. It was awkward enough he was introducing just one new survivor last week.

i wont buy anything from Si, but ill check it out.

maybe ill buy them from the $1 bin for the covers. this may be time for me to drop crossed and consider tradewaiting, but i need to be careful so i dont accidentally buy those &^%*# Si issues. i probably should have dropped it already, but i had faith that Hine would do better then he has. However this would be a golden opportunity for Si to break away from the BS wanking and write something bad ass. i dont think he is capable, but ill wager a bottle of liquor he cant write a crossed story about crossed for crossed characters that will be worth $4 to me. he belongs at weak ass corporate Marvel, not Avatar.
    prove me wrong SS!

speaking of covers, are they still going to use those awesome Aztec/Mayan covers? last time i saw a listing for them, it looked like they were using different wraps for those issues? weird

  • qp

    dilemma resolved:
#19 & #20 appear to have TWO wrap covers EACH! regular wraps and “end of the world” wraps! frustrating, yet awesome at the same time…

does avatar realize what a pain in the ass this makes for retailers? diamond can barely keep regular/wrap/incentive/etc straight! LOL

just heard Si is doing the Crossed Annual, that fucking sucks.
good time to drop this series.

hell, considering the lovely nazi cover avatar has for #13 aux its a damn good time to boycott everything connected to avatar.

ok before i go off, ill try talking to an avatar person about this shit.

o_o Boycotting the entire franchise seems extreme, in my opinion anyway, especially if it’s over one piece of cover art. But if you wish to stop reading Crossed, then alright. I myself am looking forward to another of Lapham’s story arcs.

  • Amdazzler

And I’m pretty sure I’ll enjoy Garth’s next arc as well.

While continuing to add new characters can be bothersome, I always expected there were a few more survivors out there. Sure, most people are infected, but it’s not like there aren’t a few roving bands still struggling to stay alive. I’m interested to see how Shaky works his way out of this one. Since they don’t have enough room for everyone on their boat, there’s bound to be conflict. Tempers could flare, shots could be fired (if the newcomers are armed), and all that racket could bring the Crossed right to them. Sometimes it’s the uninfected you have to worry about, because they’re desperate to keep from becoming Crossed or getting killed by the Crossed, and when backed into a corner they’ll do just about anything to get what they want.

ill be boycotting all of avatar if they dont respect those who died in WW2 and the holocaust. swastikas are no fucking joke to be played with. i gave them the benifit of the doubt but avatar has done NOTHING to stand against nazi/WP and that cover will easily be used by those kinds of groups as PROPAGANDA. they LOVE shit like that, it fucking supports the reich, period. benifit of the doubt can only go so far, actions speak louder and they aint doing shit about it.

please consider spending your money elsewhere

  • Amdazzler

This cover’s been out for awhile, and I’ve yet to see any response from said groups. And the swastika was around long before Hitler even knew it existed. Do I support Hiter? Of course not, I just don’t think Avatar is supporting them either. Guess we’ll have to agree to disagree. I hope you don’t take offense, I’m not trying to offend you, and you’re certainly entitled to your opinion, mine just happens to be a bit different than yours.

  • Amdazzler

But if it makes you feel better, I didn’t pick up an issue with that particular cover. I picked up one with a torture cover instead.

Yeah I get that, thing is that this particular group of uninfected doesn’t look the least bit interesting to read about. The off-road cowboys from Family Values were every bit of the point you’re trying to make while this group looks like it’s already been backed against the corner and they’re just a sadder waste of time than the old people at the resting home. If it’s all being done for the sake of one big incoming massacre of sodom then Spurrier phoned it in and it’s not that good. Again, I’m looking forward to his Badlands arc (and holy crow, a Jackson one-shot?! I’m in!), but maybe this shows some of problems that somewhere down the line we’ll realize Crossed wasn’t meant to be weekly.

no worries mate. no offense taken, i appreciate when people counter point my views esp when its done in such a considerate way. thank you.

i know a bit abut the history of the swastika, but flipping it around means very little to me. ive had discussions with Buddhists, Hindu, etc on the topic but i still am disgusted by it and those who uses it. heck, even the abbot at the temple i stayed in last year is creeped out by the swastika, but we both accept its history.

i dont want to think avatar supports that crap, but after making money off it they aint denying it so…?
letting shit like this slide is exactly how wp.nazis, etc build power and recruits. fck that, if anyone cares to keep the reich from returning we have to question crap like this and fight til our last breath.

note: the golden dawn has 12% of the vote in Greece and the cop, politiciatian, etc are onboard! racism and recruitment into the kkk, wp & neonazi groups has EXPLODED since Obama took office. this is not a joke, this is the time to stand up and be vigilant! this is time to get to the gym and get you FID so you can fight back against the rising evil in this country! our grandfathers, etc fought and died against that scum.are we really going to be so fucking lazy as to let them come back to power??
are we rally going to turn a blind eye to propaganda that encourages that shit??

    not me. what about you?
    what about avatar press?

I was shopping at an Indian store a couple of years ago, and took note of a swastika that was displayed on the packages of various merchandise without even a hint of controversy. The reason is that it was used in Hindu and Buddhist cultures long before the National Socialists came along.
I suspect that the “nazi” Crossed cover is a take on some obscure EC horror comic cover, but whatever it is, it most certainly isn’t an endorsement of nazism or white supremacy, and thus will I continue happily purchasing Avatar publications, particularly all things Crossed.

Because Charlie Sheen is the only human being on Earth to ever use the word “winning.”
