  • Things I Like: No Hero #3 – This is a great series by Ellis. The book is all about the only super team on the planet – an independent group that has apparently been following its own foreign policy in addition to fighting crime.

  • Best Superhero Graphic Novels Of 2008 : NPR – Few comic books have dared assassinate a president, but Ellis, author of Marvel's acclaimed series Planetary, starts his small masterpiece with a superhero turning the Oval Office into a bloodbath. Amputee Tom Black, former member of the Seven Guns, must lead the still-active members in catching their former colleague-turned-assassin. Filled with flashbacks of more hopeful times, this hunt for a renegade shows how the damaged resolutions of these once-young heroes slowly stripped them of their morality.

  • Indy Comic News Reader’s Best Of 2008 | (doktor sleepless) – Indy Comic News recently asked its readers to submit their own Best Of 2008 comic book and graphic novels list to us which would eventually be collected and added to the site. While there wasn’t one dominate title there were quite a few which made it on a lot of the submitted lists. Many thanks to everyone who took the time to send us their lists!
  • Jamie Delano’s Narcopolis | alterati – AZURE LOVE, the female agent who investigates suspect Gray Neighbour, has recently separated from a lover due to relationship pressures exerted by her job. Some vibration from Neighbour sparks her investigator’s curiosity. Although she can find no evidence in his present or past through which to condemn him, she uses a flimsy pretext to justify her continuing surveillance of his day-to-day life. Eventually she is forced to conclude that the vibration which excites her is sexual.
  • ENTERING NARCOPOLIS I: JAMIE DELANO – NEWSARAMA – The eponymous Rawbone is a folk memory to terrify children and vulnerable populations, an historic pirate captain who predated the Caribbean a hundred years before our story and died uncaptured. Legend has it that this mythic spectre of evil and his "undead" crew aboard their rotten ghost ship (La Respiracia De Muerte – The Breath of Death) can be conjured by bad magic and brought to the aid of any prepared to mortgage their soul for their ends. Rawbone symbolizes the ultimately bitter redundancy of fanaticism and "terror" as a tactic of resistance to oppression.
  • Comic Book Resources > CBR News: Future Imperfect: Jamie Delano talks “Narcopolis” – Narcopolis is an imaginary, near-future, fortified, island city-state, with a technologically advanced, complex but self-absorbed population," Jamie Delano told CBR News."Its citizens enjoy a relatively comfortable existence, gratefully protected from an omnipresent threat of violence from the 'outside' — which occasionally is randomly realized — by an elite, diligent and all-pervasive security apparatus: T.R.U.S.T.

  • Comic Review – Crossed #02, The Boys #25 and Batman #682 « Andre Navarro – After all, it’s about creatures that go far beyond the mere label of zombie. They THINK, they SCHEME, they do everything in their power to kill people in the most horrible, evil way possible – they even turn on themselves from time to time, as this issue implies, simply to satisfy their overwhelming need to hurt.
  • Jim Hanley’s Universe: Caleb’s Top 5 Comics of 2008 – Black Summer – This violent story kicks off moments after a bloody presidential assassination and only gets more exciting and more violent from there. A fresh new look at one of writer Warren Ellis's favorite themes: "How much of a monster to you have to be to stop monsters?" and adds a liberal dose of "Who decides who's a monster and who's a hero anyway?" Juan Jose Ryps's ultra-detailed art makes every issue feel twice as long as they actually are. And that's a good thing. Great story. Great art. Self-contained. What more could you ask for?
