Shaw, Rio, Haley Take Avengelyne to the Brink in Avengelyne: Revelation

With recent acquisitions such as Al Rio’s Exposure and Mike Deodato’s Jade Warriors already in its lineup, Avatar Press adds even more heat to its summer and fall schedule with Avengelyne: Revelation, a color one-shot drawn by artist Sean Shaw. Shaw, whose detailed line work has been attracting much attention of late, is well known for his work on Gen 13 Bootleg, Vampi/Wetworks, and Avatar’s Fauna: Jungle Girl. Covers from Al Rio and Matt Haley will also be available.

“One of the things that intrigued me about publishing Avengelyne at Avatar is that we can go places that the more monolithic publishers won’t go. I think we’ve proven in the comics we’ve done with Warren Ellis, for example, that we can present a fresh approach to the mainstream audience.” says Avatar Press editor in chief William A. Christensen. “And of course, Rob Liefeld and his companies have always had that outside, rebel attitude, and we’re definitely going to run with that tradition in our Avengelyne comics. So just as comics like Witchblade, Darkness, and Danger Girl opened eyes and pushed boundaries, I think that the core comic audience is going to respond to Avengelyne: Revelation in much the same way.”

“Sean campaigned hard for this one-shot, he had some very strong ideas on how he wanted to approach the character, and unleashing him on it has truly been something to behold,” Christensen continues. “He’s been getting major praise for his work on Fauna: Jungle Girl over the past year, and of course lots of people know him from his Gen 13 and other Image work, so I think this is going to be his break out book. Sean’s Avengelyne is beautiful, sexy, and definitely an ass-kicker. And the world and characters he’s created around her are phenomenal as well.”

An unknowing pawn of a powerful demon, in Avengelyne: Revelation, the Heavenly Body finds herself thrown into the sordid, sensual, barbaric world of ancient Rome. Persecuted along with the other Christians, the Earth Angel is forced into gladiator combat in the Coliseum… but it’s not humans she has to fight! Can Avengelyne conquer the other supernatural opponents to prevent the most ancient of prophecies the apocalypse itself?

Avengelyne: Revelation is a full color one-shot from Avatar Press, solicited for an October, 2000 release. The title will include covers by Al Rio, Matt Haley, and Sean Shaw, and is written by William A. Christensen and Mark Seifert and drawn by Sean Shaw. A prelude to the story will be available separately. See www.avatarpress.com for the latest information.
