Avatar Press is a comic book publisher which has carved a niche for itself as a company that pushes the boundaries between mainstream and independent with titles such as Alan Moore's The Courtyard and Magic Words, Warren Ellis' Strange Killings and Scars, Garth Ennis and John McCrea's irreverent private eye cult classic Dicks, Joe R. Lansdale and Tim Truman's Dead Folks, David Quinn and Tim Vigil's 777: The Wrath, company owned characters such as Pandora and The Ravening, licensed hits such as Frank Miller's Robocop and Stargate SG1, and long-running anthology title Threshold, among numerous other titles -- including comics for mature readers, and other audiences. A company that has established itself as one of the cornerstones of the American indy comic book scene over the past six years, Avatar has published over 350 comic books since 1997.

First Look: Stargate SG-1

Here's our first look at the upcoming Stargate SG-1 comic from the new Avatar licensed comic book imprint Pulsar Press. Readers will also get a sneak of our Stargate SG-1 material in our Frank Miller's Robocop / Stargate SG-1 Free Comic Book Day release on Saturday, May 3. Our first Stargate SG-1 mini-series will debut later in 2003. The series will be written by James Anthony Kuhoric and drawn by Renato Guedes, with color by Nimbus Studios. The cover art shown here is by Matt Busch.

As mentioned previously, Kuhoric has considerable experience with licensed science fiction comics including writing credits for Battlestar Galactica and First Wave comics. Renato Guedes is a talented newcomer who has also done work on DC's Smallville series.

Cover painter Matt Busch is a highly-regarded fantasy and science fiction artist who has done extensive work for Star Wars licensing, as well as contributing work such as storyboards, production paintings, designs or licensing tie-in artwork for film properties such as Con Air, Hard Rain, The Mummy, and The Matrix and television series such as Farscape and Star Trek. Busch also provided the cover for our Frank Miller's Robocop / Stargate SG-1 FCBD release, and much more of his art is on display in Fantastic Visions: The Art of Matt Busch.
